Description
This convenient training package includes the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course and the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course, covering all required classroom training for individuals seeking to become an unarmed security guard in New York State.
You will begin with the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course, which is the first step toward applying for your New York State Security Guard Registration Card through the NYS Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. This course is offered multiple times per week in an online format, including Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday morning sessions, as well as Friday evening sessions, providing flexibility to fit your schedule.
After successfully completing the 8-hour pre-assignment course and obtaining your security guard registration, you will move on to the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) course. The OJT course is delivered in person, in a live, instructor-led classroom setting, over two consecutive days (Wednesday and Thursday).
In addition to the required security guard training, this package also includes Fire Guard practice classes, covering Fire Guard certifications from F-01 through F-05. Fire Guard classes are held every Friday and are designed to help students build familiarity with fire safety concepts, exam material, and real-world responsibilities related to Fire Guard duties.

Enrollment Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
Steps to Obtain Your NYS Security Guard License
- Complete and pass the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course
- Submit fingerprints and pass the required background check
- Apply for your Security Guard Registration Card through the NYS Division of Licensing Services
- Within your first 90 days of employment, complete the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course
To maintain your license in good standing, you are required to complete the 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training Course each year following your initial training.
This package is designed for unarmed security guard training only and does not meet requirements for armed guard certification.
