This all-in-one package includes everything you need to start your career as a security guard in New York. It combines the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course with the required fingerprinting and background check fees, streamlining the entire process so you can focus on getting certified.

The 8-hour course is the mandatory first step for anyone applying for a Security Guard Registration Card with the New York State Department of State. In this introductory class, you’ll learn the foundational skills and knowledge every security professional needs, including:

• Legal powers and limitations
• The role and responsibilities of a security guard
• Emergency response procedures
• Communication and public relations skills
• Access control methods
• Ethics and professional conduct

To complete the course, you must pass a final exam. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a certificate that will be used in your license application process.

After your training, our team will assist you with scheduling your fingerprinting session and guide you through the application process with the Division of Licensing Services. Please note: a separate $36 state processing fee is paid directly to New York State. You’ll need valid, unexpired identification (such as a driver’s license or passport) for fingerprinting, and your application must be submitted within 5 months of your fingerprint date to avoid repeating the process.

Next Steps After This Package:

Once you’ve completed the 8-hour course and received your security guard license, state law requires you to finish a 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course within your first 90 days of employment. After that, all security guards must complete the 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training each year to maintain their license.

This package is for unarmed security guard licensing only and does not include armed guard training.
