Who Needs an F-89 Certificate?
In New York City, high-rise office buildings, hotels, and certain commercial properties with fire alarm systems and two-way voice communication must have a certified Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) on-site during regular business hours.   • OR 18 months of full-time work experience, with at least 6 continuous months at the same location, in one of the fields above
• Completion of an FDNY-approved FLSD training course (this program fulfills that requirement)
• Pass both the FDNY written exam and on-site practical test at FDNY Headquarters
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position
